Reminiscent Dementia Care

Reminiscent Dementia Care Program

Curative Connections Reminiscent Dementia Care program is unique, one of the only of its kind in the country. Programming takes place at Curative’s West side location, and the space is referred to as Yesteryear Village. The Yesteryear model was inspired by facilities in the Netherlands and Canada. This is a large group dementia care option, but the environment creates a nostalgic setting where members can reminisce and connect to their memories.

The idea behind reminiscent dementia care is to create an environment where program participants have their most clear memories, specifically ages between 18 to 30. This inviting and interactive space allows participants to move freely and safely while engaging in experiences that encourage reminiscence and reflection. As the population changes, the spaces at Yesteryear Village will evolve to reflect their youth. Currently, the space is reflective of the 50s, 60s, and 70s to represent a wider range of members. The space features a diner, passenger train car, a village square, barbershop, auto garage, and back porch. We host sock hops in the diner, offer haircuts in the barbershop, and have a car in the garage for members to tinker with. Each room in the space is functional and provides dignity of choice where members can safely and independently enjoy their day.
