
Many siblings are close but the relationship between sisters, Emma Doty and Claire Berg, is special. Sue Mielcarek shared her story at the Garden Gala 2023 as the keynote speaker. She has navigated through some incredibly difficult tragedies including the loss of her beloved son, Michael. Sue has experienced trauma and heartache but has done her best to remain positive and committed to enjoy this one life she is living. Chris Wendt has been a member of Curative Connections for three years. He comes to Curative four days a week and attends two programs, Let’s Work! and Ready, Set, Life! He also enjoys using Curative’s specialized transportation services to get to Curative one day each week. His sister, Tracy, brings Chris on the other days. When Chris attends Let’s Work!, he learns skills he needs for a successful transition to community employment through hands-on classroom learning, community training, and work skill development. Curative Connections member, Mary Powers, recently shared her inspiring family story at our 75th Anniversary Celebration on July 12. Mary’s late brother-in-law, David Hall, spent years rehabilitating at Curative after a car accident left him paralyzed in the 1950s. David was instrumental to our history by helping develop the Curative Workshop which gained national attention. David was a powerful advocate for people with disabilities and in 1963, he was named “Handicapped Man of the Year” by President John F. Kennedy for his accomplishments as an individual with a disability. Mary …
